My Classroom Management PHILOSOPHYIn order to create a classroom management philosophy, I had to ask myself: What kind of teacher am I?
The answer came right away – I am a teacher that puts the students interests first. For me, teaching is not simply a job, it is an adventure. I want the students in my class to not only love coming to school each morning, but to discover those areas of interest that truly stimulates their passion for learning. I take pride in my ability to learn about my students strengths and passions and utilize that knowledge in my lessons. The classroom is not a factory were students are mere workers on an assembly line, being told what to do and how. It is a social process where the mind of individual students creates their own knowledge in a shared community and I am there to facilitate and not tell. I believe children learn from their interactions with others, the experiences they have in life, and from the relationship they have with people at home and school. Teachers play an important role in how a child learns by developing an environment with social interaction. Since the majority of life is not learned through a textbook, many of the activities and lessons taught are hands-on learning experiences. I find that lectures tend to be too passive and that students become effective learners when allowed to be actively involved in the learning process; thus, hands-on learning is something that will continually be present within my classroom. Hands-on activities give students a chance to really evaluate, ask questions, and come to their own conclusions. My classroom environment is warm, supportive, and friendly. This requirement is the healthiest atmosphere for students, and allows students to experience surroundings that are more relaxing. Each student is appreciated, and made aware their importance within the classroom. I believe that when children know what to expect and feel comfortable in their classroom, it will be made evident in their behavior. |
